Oncology Massage
A Space to Simply Be....

Here at THRIVE, i'm honoured to now offer
Oncology Massage —a gentle, adaptive form of
massage designed specifically for those affected
by cancer. Whether you’re currently undergoing
treatment, in recovery, or living with the long-term
effects, this massage is tailored to meet you exactly
where you are.
What is Oncology Massage?
Oncology massage is a specialised approach that considers the physical, emotional, and medical complexities of cancer. It uses light, soothing, therapeutic touch techniques to promote relaxation, ease anxiety, reduce pain, and support overall well-being.
Unlike traditional massage, oncology massage is not about deep tissue or muscle manipulation. Instead, it focuses on comfort, safety and emotional support, using light, soothing techniques that are tailored to each individual's needs, treatment history, and energy levels—always with your safety and comfort as the top priority.
Who is it for?
This service is for anyone affected by cancer, including:
- Those currently receiving chemotherapy, radiation, or other treatments
- Individuals in remission or post-treatment recovery
- People living with chronic or long-term effects of cancer
- Carers and loved ones seeking a moment of calm and care
If you’re unsure whether oncology massage is right for you, I’m happy to talk through your needs and work with your medical team if needed.
What are the benefits of Oncology Massage?
Here are just a few ways oncology massage can support you on your treatment journey:
.
My Approach
As an oncology massage practitioner, I bring both clinical understanding and heartfelt empathy to every session. My background in sports therapy means I’m experienced in working with the body’s complexities, while my training in oncology massage has deepened my commitment to gentle, respectful, and person-centred care.
Each session is:
- Tailored to your current health, energy, and preferences
- Conducted in a calm, private space where you can fully relax
- Flexible—you can remain clothed, seated, or lying down, depending on what feels best
- Grounded in trust—your voice, your comfort, and your boundaries always come first
What to Expect:
Before your first session, we’ll have a short consultation, either online/telephone or face to face to understand your health history, treatment journey, and how you’re feeling on the day. This helps me create a session that’s safe, supportive, and deeply nourishing.
Massage sessions typically last between 20–60 minutes, depending on your needs. You’re welcome to bring a friend or family member if that helps you feel more at ease.
*please note, if currently undergoing cancer related treatment, consent will be required from your primary care provider (GP or consultant) prior to massage treatment*
If you or someone you care about could benefit from this kind of support, I’d be honoured to be part of your journey. Drop me a message and i'll give get back to you for a no obligation chat.

Eases Nausea Symptoms:
By activating the Parasympathetic Nervous System, this calming response can help slow the heart rate, ease digestive tension and help the stomach settle (which reduces the nausea that's triggered by stress or anxiety).

Reduces Anxiety and Promotes Calm:
The calming effects of touch can lower stress hormones like cortisol and improve mood which increases serotonin and dopamine (mood-enhancing neurotransmitters).

Improves Sleep:
Massage can help regulate sleep patterns by promoting relaxation and reducing anxiety or discomfort felt from stiff muscles and joints.

Offers Emotional Support Through Connection:
Even in silence, being with a compassionate therapist can be healing.
Massage often eases feelings of isolation that come with chronic illness, provides an opportunity for emotional release without needing to talk.
Most Frequently Asked Questions
Here are just a few FAQ's about oncology massage so you
can feel assured this treatment is right for you.
Is it safe during my chemo treatment?
Yes—when performed by a trained oncology massage therapist. Sessions are carefully adapted to avoid areas affected by treatment (like surgical sites, radiation zones, or medical devices) and to accommodate side effects such as fatigue, low blood counts, or bone fragility.
Can massage spread Cancer?
No. There is no evidence that massage causes cancer to spread. Oncology massage is widely used in cancer centers and is considered a safe complementary therapy when delivered by a qualified practitioner.
Do I need
my Doctor's consent?
If you have specific medical concerns such as blood clots, low platelet counts, or recent surgery, it’s best to consult your healthcare provider first. I’m happy to coordinate with your medical team if needed. Otherwise generally just your consent is required.
Is it only for people undergoing treatment?
Not at all. Oncology massage is beneficial at any stage—during treatment, in recovery, or even years into survivorship. It’s also helpful for carers and loved ones who need a moment of calm.
